Already yesterday the Mariinsky Orchestra has started its journey across the European countries and today musicians will be welcomed in Switzerland.
The world famous orchestra family will give two concerts within the festival framework, which carries the name of Yehudi Menuhin. In the town of Gstaad will be played compositions created by Mahler, Shostakovich, Prokofiev. Among the leading performers will be playing the pianist Boris Berezovsky and violinist Patricia Kopachinskaya.
From Switzerland the musicians will go to the United Kingdom. On one of the most famous festivals in the world - in Edinburgh - the Mariinsky Orchestra will perform the opera of german composer Wagner "Das Rheingold". On the stage of Usher Hall will perform Ekaterina Semenchuk, Vladislav Sulimsky, Mikhail Petrenko, Mikhail Vekua, Andrei Popov, Yuri Vorobyov.
In the finnish town Turku, where the orchestra will give two concerts, Valery Gergiev will take his place as a conductor. The first evening will be dedicated to the russian composers: Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Mussorgsky. The leading role in the next concert will be given to a great ballerina Maya Plisetskaya. During this event young musicians will be able to attend a master class by maestro Gergiev.
