Cold war foes meet in football friendly!

The national football teams of the Russian Federation and the United States of America will face off in a friedly football match on November 14th in the southern city of Krasnodar in Russia.

The meeting will be the 5th between the two old cold war foes, with the last meeting coming in Moscow on April 2000 when Russia won 2-0. Over the four pervious meetins, the US is 0-2-2, with two losses and two ties.

The game was initially scheduled to be held in the United States, but was recently changed to Russia. The city of Krasnodar was selected due to its favorable climate during that time of year. Another factor is in choosing Krasnodar was the fact that the local team Kuban has one of the best followings in the Russian Premier Leage.

In their last two World Cup qualifying games the U.S. has lost 2-1 to Jamaica and won 1-0 against Jamaica. Russia, however, under new coach Fabio Capello has so far enjoyed a perfect start to World Cup qualifying, beating Northern Ireland 2-0 followed by a 4-0 drubbing of Israel.
