Hermitage Marks Anniversary

The Hermitage museum in St. Petersburg has announced the opening of two new exhibitions, marking the anniversary of its foundation on St. Catherine's Day, the 7th of December.

One exhibition is a collection of early photographs, including 70 daguerreotypes from the 1840s-1850s, gathered from the Hermitage funds and other collections.

The second exhibition coinsides with the Italian culture year in Russia program, it is a display of Battista Piranesi's architectural fantasies.

The Hermitage museum is one of the oldest, largest and most famous museums in the world, founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great and opened to the public in 1852.
